On Sunday 11th February 1973 at a Conference held at the Guildhall, Southampton Elder Boyd K Packer of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, organised the Southampton Stake, the 600th stake in the Church.
The stake was organised from the Southampton District and South Coastal District of the England Southwest Mission. These two areas are now stakes themselves, namely the Portsmouth England Stake and the Poole England Stake, created when the Southampton Stake was reorganised on 23 May 1982.
The creation of a stake meant the creation of wards and leaders called and ordained as Bishops and High Priests.
Reginald V Littlecott was called as Stake President with Peter J Crockford First Counsellor and Leonard Eden as Second Counsellor.
Called to the Stake High Council were Dave Cottrell, Fred Jackson, John Hollis, Sid Kenchington, John McClaverty, Andy Herman, Sid Herridge, Tiny Dyer, Geoff Clench, George Plumbley, Chris Wills.
