Community leads anti-hate and peace vigil
BCP Interfaith are to lead a vigil for all those suffering in Israel and Palestine on Sunday 14th January at 1.00pm
The event will speak out against both anti-semitism and anti-muslim hate and call on us to protect community relations in the local area and across the country.
The local vigil follows a mass event in London last month called ‘Building Bridges, Together for Humanity’, which saw thousands of people gather in Westminster to light lanterns and hear from speakers including Magen Inon whose parents were both killed in Israel by Hamas on the 7th of October, Hamze Awawde a Palestinian peace activist, Robi Damilen whose son David was killed by a Palestinian sniper in 2002, the Archbishop of Canterbury, and others.
The vigil in St Luke’s Church Hall, Winton, BH3 7LR will say prayers from across the faiths, have readings from faith leaders and light candles bringing people together in shared grief for all those who have been lost, to stand united against rising anti-semitism and anti-muslim hatred, and to show that different communities can live together in peace.
Canon Michael Smith, Co-Chair of BCP Interfaith said ‘at this time when violence against our sisters and brothers in the Muslim and Jewish communities is on the increase, we feel it really important that we all stand in solidarity and support of each other, against hate and to pray for peace. This vigil is an outward sign of our support for those within the Jewish and Muslim communities particularly at this time.’
All are welcome to join the event. There will be no flags, banners or placards.
